Frances-Higgins Projects (FHP) are looking to recruit the below:

Location: Yorkshire preferred (Worksop / Bradford offices) – UK-wide site travel required

Job Type: Permanent or Contract

Salary: £55,000+ per annum (Permanent) or £500+ per day (Contract)

About the Role

Frances-Higgins Projects (FHP) is recruiting a Civil Project Manager on behalf of a client delivering civil engineering projects within the UK substation and electrical infrastructure sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a civil engineering background and experience working on National Grid or other DNO substation projects who is looking to develop their project management career.

The client is open to candidates who are earlier in their careers and keen to progress, rather than requiring extensive years of project management experience. Candidates with a commercial or Quantity Surveying (QS) background who are looking to transition into project management will also be considered, provided they have relevant civil engineering and substation industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage civil engineering projects from initial scoping through to completion.

  • Carry out site visits across the UK to assess project requirements and monitor progress.

  • Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).

  • Compile project quotations, estimates and supporting documentation.

  • Coordinate subcontractors, labour, plant and materials.

  • Liaise with clients, site teams, engineers and subcontractors to ensure effective project delivery.

  • Monitor project progress, costs, quality and programme deadlines.

  • Identify project risks and support the implementation of suitable control measures.

  • Ensure works comply with health and safety requirements, project specifications and relevant procedures.

  • Provide regular updates on project progress, costs and any issues requiring management attention.

Essential Requirements

  • Background in civil engineering, civil construction or groundworks.

  • Experience working on UK substation projects for National Grid or another DNO.

  • Good understanding of civil engineering works and site operations.

  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage project requirements.

  • Willingness to travel UK-wide for site visits.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Experience

  • Project management or project coordination experience.

  • Experience preparing RAMS, scoping works and producing quotations.

  • Commercial or Quantity Surveying experience.

  • Experience managing subcontractors and monitoring project costs.

  • Relevant civil engineering qualifications or project management training.

Candidates looking to step up into project management are encouraged to apply. Extensive project management experience is not essential, provided candidates have the relevant civil and substation background.

Location and Working Arrangements

The client has offices in Worksop and Bradford, with candidates based in Yorkshire preferred.

The expected working arrangement is approximately 2–3 days per week in the office, with the remaining time spent on site or undertaking project-related duties.

Candidates based further afield will also be considered. Flexible arrangements, including working from home combined with UK-wide site visits, may be available for the right person.

Salary and Benefits

  • Permanent: £55,000+ per annum.

  • Contract: £500+ per day.

  • Permanent or contract engagement available.

  • Opportunity to develop and progress within project management.

  • Varied projects across the UK substation sector.

  • Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
