Frances-Higgins Projects is working with a leading power and utilities organisation to recruit an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer for projects across the South East. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an engineer with strong protection and commissioning expertise, particularly using OMICRON test equipment.


The Role

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient commissioning of high-voltage electrical assets across substations and grid infrastructure projects. The role involves both site-based commissioning and technical support, ensuring all systems are tested, compliant, and ready for energisation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Commissioning of HV and EHV equipment including protection relays, transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear

  • Protection testing and fault investigation using OMICRON test sets (CPC, CMC, etc.)

  • Development, review, and execution of commissioning and test documentation

  • Liaison with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines on site

  • Ensuring all works comply with safety rules, industry standards, and client procedures

  • Supporting outage planning, energisation, and handover activities

  • Producing accurate test results, reports, and commissioning records


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an HV Commissioning Engineer within the UK power sector

  • Strong, demonstrable experience using OMICRON test equipment

  • Solid understanding of protection schemes and relay testing

  • Experience working on National Grid, DNO, or major utility projects preferred

  • Relevant electrical engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent)

  • Authorised Person / Senior Authorised Person (or working towards) advantageous

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the South East
