Northern Area Manager – Civil Substation Projects

We are looking for a hands-on Northern Area Manager to lead the delivery of civil engineering works on National Grid substation projects across the northern region.

This role is site-focused and delivery-led, suited to someone who enjoys being on the ground, supporting teams, driving standards, and maintaining strong relationships with clients.


The Role

  • Take direct responsibility for multiple live civil substation projects

  • Maintain a strong site presence across the region

  • Support project and site teams

  • Drive programme, safety, quality, and commercial performance

  • Act as the senior regional point of contact for employees, suppliers and clients

  • Ensure full compliance with National Grid safety rules, procedures, and technical standards

  • Lead framework governance, reporting, and audit readiness

  • Represent the business in progress meetings and progress reviews

  • Carry out site inspections, safety tours, and quality checks

  • Ensure RAMS, permits, and quality records are in place and followed


About You

  • Strong civil engineering background within live electrical substations

  • Proven experience delivering works on HV sites

  • Confident managing multiple sites and teams

  • Excellent knowledge of National Grid safety, compliance, and governance

  • NEC contract experience

  • SMSTS and CSCS (Manager level) essential
