Northern Area Manager – Civil Substation Projects

We are looking for a hands-on Northern Area Manager to lead the delivery of civil engineering works on National Grid substation projects across the northern region.
This role is site-focused and delivery-led, suited to someone who enjoys being on the ground, supporting teams, driving standards, and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
The Role
Take direct responsibility for multiple live civil substation projects
Maintain a strong site presence across the region
Support project and site teams
Drive programme, safety, quality, and commercial performance
Act as the senior regional point of contact for employees, suppliers and clients
Ensure full compliance with National Grid safety rules, procedures, and technical standards
Lead framework governance, reporting, and audit readiness
Represent the business in progress meetings and progress reviews
Carry out site inspections, safety tours, and quality checks
Ensure RAMS, permits, and quality records are in place and followed
About You
Strong civil engineering background within live electrical substations
Proven experience delivering works on HV sites
Confident managing multiple sites and teams
Excellent knowledge of National Grid safety, compliance, and governance
NEC contract experience
SMSTS and CSCS (Manager level) essential
